Elon Musk has confirmed that the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, was hit by a massive cyberattack on March 10, 2025.
The cyberattack caused major disruptions for users, with the site going down for hours. Musk revealed that the attack was traced to IP addresses originating from Ukraine, though he emphasized that the cause and motivation remain unclear.
The attack, which began in the early hours, had users across the globe struggling to access the platform. By mid-afternoon, the issues seemed to subside as X engineers worked to restore the site.
Musk appeared on Fox Business Network to discuss the event, speculating that the scale of the attack suggested involvement from a “coordinated group” or even a foreign nation.
Musk did not provide many details but noted that the attack caused widespread disruptions, leaving many unable to log in or use the app.
According to Musk, this was a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack, a method that floods the website with fake traffic to overwhelm its servers and take it offline.

The timing of the attack is notable, coming just days after a tense spat between Musk and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky over Musk’s Starlink system.
Musk had previously suggested that Starlink’s satellite service was crucial for the Ukrainian military, which led to heated comments about the conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
While Musk speculated on the origin of the cyberattack, no direct links have been confirmed between Ukraine and the group responsible.
A pro-Palestinian hacker collective known as Dark Storm Team took credit for the attack but has no known connections to Ukrainian hackers.
This attack highlights the growing tensions between Musk, his global enterprises, and political figures, adding another chapter to the ongoing story of Musk’s controversial influence in geopolitics.
