Premier League’s chief executive, Richard Masters, disclosed on Tuesday that a date has been established for the hearing of charges against Manchester City regarding alleged breaches of financial regulations.
The reigning Premier League champions had been charged with a staggering 115 infractions in February 2023, following an investigation initiated in 2018.
During a parliamentary inquiry on Tuesday morning, Masters faced questions on various issues concerning the top-flight league, with one of the focal points being the charges against Manchester City.
While confirming that a date had been set, Masters refrained from specifying when the hearing would take place.
Emphasizing the uniqueness of the charges, Masters asserted that the “volume and character” of the allegations against Manchester City differed from those leveled against Everton and Nottingham Forest.
Both Everton and Nottingham Forest received Premier League charges on Monday for violating spending rules, with the potential consequence of a points deduction this season if found guilty.
The charges against Manchester City span 14 seasons, from 2009-10 onwards, encompassing various aspects such as financial reporting and a purported lack of cooperation with a Premier League investigation initiated in 2018. Manchester City has vehemently denied any wrongdoing.
