EPL: Kompany’s Burnley relegated after loss to Spurs

By Majesty 2 Min Read

After failing to win at Tottenham, which would have maintained their hopes, Burnley was demoted from the Premier League. With a goal by Jacob Bruun Larsen in the 25th minute, the Clarets took the lead.

They knew that a loss or draw would mean they would no longer be able to catch fourth-place Nottingham Forest.

Seven minutes later, Pedro Porro blasted in an equaliser, dampening the excitement of the visiting supporters.

Spurs were eventually rewarded for their dominance in the second half when defender Micky van de Ven broke forward and skillfully placed the winning goal into the bottom corner.

Fifth-place Tottenham would have benefited little from the draw since they needed to keep up the pressure on Aston Villa in the Champions League campaign. Burnley and Sheffield United are both returning to the Championship immediately since they are five points behind Forest with one game left.

Tottenham needed two defenders to give the attacking spark, but in the end they had enough quality to pass a tough test. The comeback preserved Spurs’ limited chances of defeating Villa.

Tottenham hopes that Unai Emery’s team drops points against Liverpool and Crystal Palace, but they also know they need to defeat Manchester City and Sheffield United in their final two games.
