Breaux, is facing new legal trouble after she was arrested in Georgia earlier this week during a traffic stop that escalated into a felony drug case.
Police took Banks into custody on the afternoon of December 8 after Brookhaven officers pulled over a vehicle traveling along Buford Highway. Banks was seated in the passenger seat when officers approached.
Authorities have not publicly detailed “what led to the traffic stop and circumstances of the arrest,” according to CBS News, but additional reports suggest officers initially noticed the vehicle because its dealer plates were hidden behind a tinted tag.
TMZ reports that officers ran the vehicle information and learned it had been reported stolen, prompting police to order the driver, identified as Amani Dirton, and Banks out of the car. During the subsequent search, officers allegedly found ecstasy inside Banks’ purse.
She was charged with possession of a Schedule I or II controlled substance with intent to distribute, a felony under Georgia law.
Dirton also faces a string of charges after police said they discovered marijuana in his possession. He is now accused of “theft by receiving stolen property, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, and [improperly] displayed license plate.”
This is the second time in recent months that Banks has encountered legal issues in the Atlanta area. In August, she was detained at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport after security found a gun inside her luggage.
Banks reportedly told officers she did not realize the firearm was in her bag. A later search revealed the weapon had been stolen, leading to a separate charge of “theft by receiving stolen property.”
Banks, known for her breakout track Buss It, has not publicly commented on her latest arrest as authorities continue investigating.
