Following Manchester United’s 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Sunday, Erik ten Hag, the team’s manager, commended Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof, referring to them as “dominant.”

The two defenders started in the absence of injured players Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane.

Despite concerns from some fans before the game, Lindelof and Maguire were able to secure a crucial away victory for the Red Devils, keeping them on track for a top-four finish in the Premier League.

While Maguire had a few shaky moments during the game, Ten Hag was impressed with the defensive partnership and praised their performance in an interview with BBC Sport.

The 53-year-old commented on his team’s performance, saying “It was a solid win.

We were really focused and concentrated from start to finish.”

He also mentioned that his team has now achieved the most clean sheets in the top five European leagues.

“Harry [Maguire] and Victor [Lindelof] dominated their opponents.”

Erik ten Hag explained why he chose to play Harry Maguire on the right side of defence and Victor Lindelof on the left.

“The angles are not good if Harry is playing on the left side, it is difficult for him. But I think he is more capable on the right,” he said.

“We approach it game by game. We have to win, we are Manchester United, that has to be the approach,” he added.

“I know it will not always work out, if you play so many games sometimes you get setbacks, you get a draw in the week [against Sevilla], we made mistakes and had bad luck.”

“But you have to learn from the mistakes you make and today it was a concentrated and focused performance, and that is what we need, especially when you go to the end [of the season].”

“As I said before, the points are more expensive in this period of the season because they are all finals.”

“[Teams] are really battling against relegation and they are battling for their lives.”

“Or they’re going for the top, so you have to really fight for every point.”
