The tragic 2023 murder of Idaho woman Mandy Rose Reynolds was solved with the help of an unexpected hero: her loyal dog.
Reynolds, 26, was found burnt and “dead beyond recognition” on April 5, 2023, in a field in Robinson, Texas.
Authorities had initially no way of identifying the victim, but the presence of a white dog near the body proved to be a crucial clue.

The dog, named Titan, was found barking frantically near Reynolds’ remains and refused to leave the scene. Police said the dog’s behavior was so intense that they were unable to capture him at first.
But the next day, Titan was still there, prompting a citizen to notify animal control. Through a microchip, authorities traced Titan back to Reynolds, which led them to believe the burned body belonged to her.
Police soon discovered that Reynolds’ apartment was empty, her belongings were gone, and her car was missing.
A license plate search led them to Wichita, Kansas, where they found Reynolds’ car and encountered her cousin, 29-year-old Derek Daigneault. Daigneault fled the scene but was quickly caught hiding in a grocery store.

Investigators found a handgun inside Reynolds’ car, matching a shell casing found near her body.
Security footage from a San Marcos Walmart showed Daigneault buying a plastic storage container—identical to the one Reynolds’ body was found in—along with a shovel and gas can just before the murder.
The footage also captured Titan in the car, sticking his head out the window.
Daigneault was sentenced to life in prison for the murder on November 7, 2024.
The motive for the killing remains unclear, but Reynolds’ family described her as a young woman full of promise, having recently moved to Texas and contemplating starting college.
