A tragic incident occurred in Covina, California, on Sunday, when a 5-year-old girl was killed after being attacked by two family dogs in the backyard of their home.

The girl, who had known the dogs her entire life, was mauled by a 10-year-old Rottweiler and a 6-year-old Rottweiler mix. The attack left her with severe injuries to her head and torso.

Her father intervened, managing to separate her from the dogs, but the young girl was pronounced dead at the hospital about an hour later.

According to the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, there were no previous incidents involving the dogs before this attack.

The family’s other two dogs were removed from the home following the incident. Authorities have stated that no foul play is suspected and have labeled the incident as a “tragic accident.”

The heartbreaking event occurred in the backyard of the family’s Covina home, located just east of Los Angeles.

The loss has left the community shaken, as the girl’s death highlights the unpredictable nature of dog attacks, even with pets that have been part of a family for years.
