In Bradford, England, a young woman was fatally stabbed while strolling with her infant, as per the authorities.

Kulsuma Akter, 27, of Oldham, was stabbed on Saturday at approximately 3:21 p.m. while out for a stroll. According to West Yorkshire Police, she was “taken to hospital but subsequently died from her injuries.”

Authorities added that although Akter was pulling a pram at the time, her young child was not hurt.

“She was with her young baby at the time of the incident – the baby is safe and was not harmed in the incident,” police stated in a statement.

Authorities have named 25-year-old Habibur Masum of Oldham as the murder suspect. They think he was acquainted with Akter.

Shortly after the murder, Masum was captured on camera waiting outside a bus stop. Although a knife was also found at the site, police think the suspect may still be carrying a weapon.

“He is pictured on CCTV wearing a duffle coat with three large horizontal lines of grey, white and black, light blue or grey tracksuit bottoms with a small black emblem on the left pocket and maroon trainers,” police stated. “A witness also reported seeing him wearing a grey [hoodie] with the hood up.”

A 23-year-old male who the police say helped Masum with the murder was also taken into custody.

Detective Chief Inspector Stacey Atkinson stated in a statement, “This is an absolutely tragic incident in which a mother has lost her life in the most horrific of circumstances.”

“We understand that this has caused a considerable amount of concern in the local community,” said Atkinson. “Local Neighbourhood Policing teams are patrolling the area conducting reassurance to the community.”

Atkinson also exhorts anyone who thinks they might know Masum to contact the police right away.

“I would urge anyone who has seen him or who knows where he is not to approach him but to contact police immediately on 999,” said the officer.
