Newly released bodycam footage has revealed a chilling moment in which Karl Groschen, 41, confessed to the brutal murders of his wife, Anastasia Akutsina-Groschen, 44, and his stepson, Sergei Scoggins, 20, in front of his terrified 5-year-old son.
The footage, shared by Las Vegas CBS affiliate KLAS, captures Groschen calmly admitting to the crime as he approaches responding officers on October 11.
In the video, Groschen, holding a beverage can and two prescription drug bottles, walks toward the officers with his young son trailing behind him.
When an officer asks what happened, Groschen responds, “There’s two dead bodies.” He goes on to identify the victims as his wife and stepson, and then explains that his wife’s body is in the car parked in the garage, while his stepson’s body is in the laundry room.
Throughout the exchange, Groschen maintains a strangely calm demeanor, even claiming that the shootings were in self-defense. “You’ve got to take me,” he says to the officers as they handcuff him.
“I thought they were trying to kill me.” Authorities believe, however, that the events leading up to the murders tell a different story.
A neighbor reported overhearing a heated argument between Groschen and Scoggins, with Groschen allegedly telling his stepson to “get the [expletive] out of here.” Moments later, gunshots rang out.
When police arrived, they found a handgun in plain view in the garage, and both victims were located as Groschen had described.

Akutsina-Groschen was found in the driver’s seat of their vehicle, while Scoggins was discovered in the laundry room.
Prosecutors and police have found no evidence supporting Groschen’s claims of self-defense, and they believe the murders were premeditated.
Groschen, who faces charges of murder and child abuse, has yet to enter a plea. His five-year-old son was placed into protective custody following the incident.
The family of the victims is devastated. Andy Scoggins, the ex-husband and father of the victims, described Groschen as a “coward” and expressed disbelief that he harmed his loved ones.
“If he wanted to harm somebody, why didn’t he harm himself?” he said. “My son would never leave his mother or little brother inside with that monster Karl.”
