Florida Man Caught Digging Grave for Assault Victim Who Was Still Alive

A shocking case in Florida has left officials confused after a guy was spotted digging up a grave for someone he had recently assaulted.

Giovanni Bubenik, 29, is accused of attacking another guy at a transitory camp in DeLand, Florida. According to police accounts, Bubenik repeatedly punched the victim on the back of the head.

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said deputies discovered the injured man on March 15. A body camera captured the distressing moment officers arrived at the scene. The victim was found critically wounded but still alive. He was immediately transported to the hospital, where doctors confirmed he was in critical condition.

As part of their investigation, authorities launched a manhunt for Bubenik. The sheriff’s office reported that on March 21, deputies tracked him down with the help of a K-9 unit. He was found hiding behind a shed near a residence.

Investigators revealed that Bubenik had allegedly begun digging a grave in the woods near the transient camp, seemingly believing the victim was dead. However, his assumption was wrong, as the man had survived the brutal attack.

Following his arrest, Bubenik was charged with attempted first-degree murder. He is currently being held without bond at the Volusia County Division of Corrections. In addition to the attempted murder charge, he faces an additional count of obstructing an officer without violence.

Authorities confirmed that the victim has since regained consciousness. However, medical experts fear he may suffer long-term health complications, including memory loss. His current condition remains under close observation.

Bubenik is scheduled to appear in court for his arraignment on April 10. Investigators continue to gather evidence as they build their case against him.
