Florida man and woman are accused of subjecting their young daughter to repeated physical harm and forcing her to ingest a substance she is allergic to as punishment.
Authorities say the case came to light after the child reported the alleged abuse to a school resource officer, triggering an investigation by law enforcement and child protection officials. What followed, according to court documents, revealed a pattern of discipline that investigators described as excessive and dangerous.
The girl told officers that she was frequently beaten with various objects inside the home. “They whoop me with a belt … a wooden spoon,” she told cops.
She reportedly showed visible injuries to her thigh and explained that the punishment stemmed from an incident involving “ink on the cat,” which she described as part of an experiment. According to investigators, she said she was struck 15 times with a hand during one episode.
Beyond the physical punishment, authorities say the situation escalated further. The girl alleged that her mother prepared a homemade mixture using “red peppers, onions and oil” and forced her to consume it despite knowing she had an allergy. Police documents indicate this reportedly happened on at least 10 occasions.
“According to the victim, when she doesn’t want to drink the hot sauce, ‘Ashley’ would hold [the victim’s] nose closed, which prevented her from being able to breathe,” cops wrote. “The victim stated that the hot sauce made her stomach hurt and causes her to vomit.”
Medical professionals who later examined the child reportedly found multiple injuries consistent with repeated harm. Officers noted that a doctor described the situation as “bizarre” physical abuse, citing bruises and three “long, parallel welts on her back thigh.”
During questioning, the child’s father allegedly acknowledged striking her. According to the affidavit, he admitted that he “whooped her a—” and claimed he aimed for her buttocks but instead hit her legs. The mother also allegedly admitted to forcing the girl to consume the hot sauce, stating it was punishment for lying about the incident involving the cat.
Both parents were taken into custody and booked into the Brevard County Jail. Authorities confirmed they are each being held on a $5,000 bond, with court proceedings expected to continue in early April.
