The incident occurred on Wednesday, Jan. 8, at the Quality Inn in Kissimmee, about 20 miles south of Orlando.

Hotel staff had asked Piero Estefano But-Castillo to leave after he allegedly damaged hotel property, including a window in an occupied room.

According to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, But-Castillo was angered by the request and began a violent outburst.

Robert Krusinowski, a longtime resident of the hotel who often assisted staff with maintenance, attempted to calm But-Castillo down.

Deputies arrived to find But-Castillo “still beating” Krusinowski, who had suffered severe head trauma. Despite first aid efforts from fire department personnel, Krusinowski died from his injuries at the scene.

The violent attack was partially captured by a hotel resident on a cellphone, providing key evidence in the case.

The sheriff’s office noted that But-Castillo was on a 90-day tourist visa that expired on January 1, 2024, and was currently under investigation for his actions, with the Chilean government being involved in gathering additional information.

But Castillo is currently in custody at the Osceola County Jail with no bond. In addition to murder charges, he faces charges of resisting arrest, battery on a law enforcement officer, and criminal mischief.
