Lareine Barbie Cruz, 22, was taken into custody over the weekend in connection with the incident, which took place outside her Miami home on November 9.

According to a police affidavit obtained by PEOPLE, Miami police responded to a shooting call on Saturday and found a woman with a gunshot wound to her neck.

The victim, whose identity has not been released, was rushed to a nearby hospital.

The investigation revealed a complicated love triangle involving Cruz, the victim, and a man who had been in a five-year relationship with the victim before meeting Cruz two years ago.

The man described to police how all three had previously been in a polyamorous relationship, but tensions had risen recently due to relationship issues.

He began dating Cruz, which reportedly caused jealousy in the victim.

On the morning of the shooting, the victim reportedly saw the man smoking on Cruz’s balcony and yelled at him. He left the apartment to avoid confrontation, but things escalated later in the day.

Cruz is accused of shooting the victim “blindly through the door,” according to police. The investigation revealed that the victim never entered Cruz’s apartment, and Cruz allegedly fired the shot while the victim was still outside.

Cruz has been charged with attempted murder and displaying a firearm while committing a felony. It is unclear whether she has entered a plea or retained an attorney to represent her in court.

This incident has raised questions about the potential risks and complications in polyamorous relationships, especially when jealousy and relationship struggles come into play.

The case remains under investigation as Cruz awaits further legal proceedings.
