Mauricio Pochettino is optimistic about Wesley Fofana joining Chelsea’s squad for their summer tour in the United States, as the defender approaches a return from injury.
Fofana, a France international, has yet to play under Pochettino in a competitive match since he suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury last summer.
Since joining from Leicester City in 2022, Fofana has made just 20 appearances for Chelsea due to various injuries.

However, he is now gearing up for his highly anticipated comeback. Although he won’t be available for the last two games of the season against Brighton and Bournemouth, Pochettino believes Fofana will be fit for pre-season training in a couple of months.
Pochettino’s Update on Wesley Fofana
“Yes, we hope so,” Pochettino said when asked if Fofana will be part of Chelsea’s pre-season.
“He is doing well, very positive, we were talking yesterday and hope he can be available to be part of the group. He is still not part of group training.”

“Now is going to start a period where players want to leave, maybe some offers arrive or players that we want to add to the squad. Of course, we have already started to work on this,” Pochettino told reporters.”
Pochettino Updates on Romeo Lavia Christopher Nkunku, Reece James and Others
“In the case of Romeo Lavia, Christopher Nkunku, Reece James. We need to pay attention in the way we need to provide them with a possibility to be fit. Now it is not only a challenge to have them fit now but in the way we manage for a whole season so there are no setbacks again.

“Of course, in football you always need to take some risks but they have the quality to take some risks.”
Chelsea has been in good form, losing just one of their last 13 matches and is on track to qualify for Europe.
Nicolas Jackson has been particularly impressive recent weeks.
Pochettino added: “Nico has the potential to be a very, very good striker. A fantastic striker. Only it’s about patience and time.

“He got amazing criticism from the beginning because he was compared to [Didier] Drogba from the start.
He also commended Moises Caicedo’s recent performances, stating, “I expect more from him, even though he is performing well. I think next season, I have no doubt he will be much better. Now he knows what it means to play for Chelsea, all the pressure is off.”
However, Pochettino denied that Caicedo performs better without his usual midfield partner, Fernandez, who underwent surgery for a hernia problem.
“Enzo is a fantastic player who can fit in any team in the world,” he added. “He will become stronger with one year’s worth of experience. He is going to be fantastic for Chelsea.”
