For the past 20 years, I’ve never won a VGMA: Gospel Artist laments

Piesie Esther, the Ghanaian gospel performer, has expressed her sorrow and hurt at not being recognized at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA).

The Ghanaian-based gospel artist acknowledged during an exclusive interview on Kastle FM that she is miffed over not winning an award in the VGMA for the past 20 years.

She claims that despite receiving numerous nominations in the past, she has never won an honor. Below are the words she uttered:

“I’ve never won the VGMA before but I have gotten a lot of nominations in the past and as human, as we are I sometimes feel hurt for not winning,” 

When all musicians are going to be awarded and though that’s not the ultimate that I seek for because the biggest award is that my song made someone to accept Christ,” she emphasized.

Piesie Esther went further to note that even though she experiences disappointment whenever she does not win an award, she thinks that the greatest honor a Christian or gospel musician can have is winning people to Christ through her music.

During an exclusive interview on Cape Coast’s Kastle FM, Piesie Esther iterated as follows:

“There’s no award bigger than helping someone to get salvation but once we are human and the nature of the work we do makes us feel we deserve to be awarded.

“Sometimes we feel that my song is better than the one who was given the award but we move on when we’re unable to win after getting the nomination,” she added.
