Ford to Recall Nearly 1.5 Million Vehicles in the U.S. Over Rear-View Camera Malfunction

  • 1.5 million Ford vehicles recalled in U.S. due to faulty rear-view cameras
  • Models affected: Mustang, Lincoln Navigator, F-Series trucks, and more
  • Free repairs: Ford dealers to replace cameras at no cost
  • Additional recall: Magna International recalls 250,000 cameras in Ford and Stellantis vehicles

Ford Motor Company is issuing a massive recall of nearly 1.5 million vehicles across the United States after federal regulators flagged a potentially dangerous rear-view camera defect.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced on Tuesday that the malfunction could result in inverted, distorted, or completely blank images, posing a serious risk to driver visibility and road safety.

According to NHTSA, the recall covers a wide range of vehicles from the 2015 to 2019 model years, including the Lincoln MKC, Lincoln Navigator, Mustang, F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550, Expedition, Edge, Transit, Transit Connect, Econoline, and Ranger.

In its notice, NHTSA emphasized the urgency of the recall, noting that a faulty rear-view camera can significantly increase the risk of a crash when reversing.

Ford has assured customers that its dealerships will inspect and replace the affected cameras free of charge, ensuring that owners do not bear any repair costs.

In a related development, according to Reuters, Canadian auto parts manufacturer Magna International is recalling more than 250,000 rear-view cameras that were installed in select Ford and Stellantis vehicles. This parallel recall underscores the scale of the safety issue across North America’s auto industry.

Vehicle recalls are a common but crucial process in maintaining road safety standards. In recent years, regulators have heightened scrutiny on automakers, particularly when it comes to technologies designed to improve driver awareness.

For Ford, this large-scale recall serves as a reminder of the importance of quality control as the automotive industry continues to integrate advanced driver-assistance technologies.

Owners of affected vehicles are encouraged to check NHTSA’s official recall database or contact Ford customer service directly to confirm eligibility for the free repairs.
