Former La Liga Star Andrija Delibasic Dies at 43 After Cancer Battle

Andrija Delibasic, the former Real Sociedad striker, has tragically passed away at the age of 43 after a brave battle with cancer.

The Montenegro international was diagnosed with a brain tumor several years ago, and despite his valiant fight, his death was confirmed on Tuesday.

Delibasic, who was well-known for his time at FK Partizan, enjoyed a successful career at several clubs. He made 100 appearances and scored 48 goals for Partizan between 1999 and 2004, and notably scored three goals during a Champions League campaign, including two against Porto, who would go on to win the tournament that year.

Tributes from Delibasic’s former clubs poured in on social media following the news of his passing. Real Sociedad expressed their sorrow, writing, “We deeply regret the passing of Andrija Delibašić, former Txuri Urdin player from the 2007/08 season. Our deepest condolences to his family and friends. Goian bego.”

Hercules CF also shared their condolences, writing, “Hercules CF mourns the passing of Andrija Delibašić, former blue and white player.

He was instrumental in our promotion to the First Division in the 2009/2010 season, scoring 20 goals in two seasons. RIP.”

Rayo Vallecano, another of Delibasic’s former clubs, also honored the late footballer, stating, “Rayo Vallecano is mourning the passing of our former player Andrija Delibasic. He played a key role in our promotion to the First Division in 2011. RIP Deli.”

Partizan, where Delibasic is a beloved figure, wrote simply, “Andrija Delibasic 1981 – 2025. Rest in peace, legend!!!”

Delibasic also made his mark on the international stage, scoring against England in a memorable 2-2 draw during Montenegro’s 2011 campaign.

The football world mourns the loss of this talented and beloved player. He will be remembered for his contributions both on and off the pitch.
