Brady Ebert

A founding member of the Grammy-winning rock band Turnstile is now at the center of a serious criminal case after authorities in Maryland charged him with attempted murder following a violent incident involving a bandmate’s family.

Police say 33-year-old Brady Ebert was taken into custody on Tuesday and is being held without bond. The charges stem from an alleged attack in suburban Silver Spring, where investigators say he used a vehicle to strike a 78-year-old man during a confrontation.

Authorities identified the victim as William Yates, the father of Brendan Yates, who leads the band. The incident unfolded Sunday afternoon after officers responded to a reported hit-and-run at a residential property.

According to police, the situation escalated during an argument in a driveway. Ebert allegedly struck the victim with his sedan and fled the scene without contacting authorities or offering assistance. The injured man suffered serious trauma, including a broken leg, and was rushed to a hospital for emergency treatment.

The vehicle believed to be involved was later discovered abandoned nearby, showing visible front-end damage. Investigators say surveillance footage played a critical role in identifying Ebert as the suspect, leading to the issuance of an arrest warrant.

In a statement addressing the incident, the band said: “Brady went to the house of Brendan’s parents and used his vehicle to run over Brendan’s father, causing severe physical trauma,”

They confirmed that William Yates survived and underwent surgery. The group added:
“We’re hoping for the best possible outcome in his recovery. We have no language left for Brady,”
The band also pointed to a history of troubling behavior that led to Ebert’s departure from the group in 2022. According to their statement: “in response to a consistent pattern of harmful behavior affecting himself, the band, and the community,”

They further explained: “After exhausting every available resource to support his access to help and recovery, a boundary ultimately had to be set when healthy communication was no longer possible and he began threatening violence.”

Ebert now faces charges including attempted second-degree murder and assault. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for May 1 at the Montgomery County District Court.

Before the incident, Turnstile had reached major commercial and critical success. Their 2021 album “Glow On” marked a breakthrough moment, while their 2025 release “Never Enough” earned top honors at the Grammy Awards, winning Best Rock Album and Best Metal Performance.
