Former US President Donald Trump has confirmed his intention to turn himself in to the Fulton County jail on Thursday, August 24, following charges that he attempted to overturn Georgia’s 2020 presidential election results.
The announcement came via Trump’s social media, where he criticized the charges and accused the District Attorney of pursuing a political agenda.
In his social media post, Trump expressed disbelief at the charges and labeled the situation as a “witch hunt.”

He reiterated his claims of election interference and accused both the District Attorney and the Department of Justice of being part of an orchestrated effort against him. He further declared that his visit to Atlanta was due to a “perfect phone call” and not for any criminal intent.

The charges against Trump and his 18 co-defendants were filed on August 14, with a deadline for surrender set for Friday at noon. The former president’s bail was set at $200,000, and he was instructed not to send threatening messages on social media.
Security around the jail has been heightened in anticipation of Trump’s arrival. The Fulton County jail, known for its squalid conditions, has been under investigation by the Department of Justice due to allegations of violence, death, and excessive force.

Trump’s legal team is expected to negotiate the terms of his release and bond before he is formally booked. It could take more than a week for the defendants to appear in court and enter a plea.
Despite the charges, Trump continues to deny any wrongdoing, and his surrender will mark a significant moment in his post-presidential legal battles.
