Two Georgia parents are facing serious charges after their 8-month-old baby was found dead from suffocation.
The infant, according to police, rolled off a mattress and became wedged between the mattress and a couch cushion.
Kiara Davis, 27, and Miguel Badillo, 24, were arrested on November 13, 2024, and charged with second-degree murder, second-degree child cruelty, and possession of drug-related objects.
The charges stem from the baby’s tragic death, which occurred on September 27, 2024.

Columbus police were called to the couple’s home after the baby was found unresponsive. Detectives later discovered that the infant had been placed on an angled mattress on a loveseat.
There were no safety measures in place to prevent the child from rolling off and getting stuck between the mattress and couch cushions.
During a court hearing on November 15, investigators said the baby suffocated while her mother, Kiara Davis, was outside talking to a friend.
Police have not indicated whether the parents were aware of the baby’s situation at the time.

The couple’s landlord, Howard Turner, expressed shock over the incident, describing the parents as “very caring” toward their baby.
Turner suggested the death was a “freak accident” but added that the situation was still tragic.
As of now, Davis and Badillo remain in custody. The investigation into the case is ongoing.
