Ghana Football Association to announce Otto Addo's replacement this January ahead of Black Star's next assignment in March

It is finally time to appoint a new head coach for the Ghana National Football Team (The Black Stars), as the position has been vacant since Otto Addo’s departure following Ghana’s humiliating elimination from the 2022 FIFA World Cup competition in Qatar.

The new head coach for the Black Stars team will be named in this very month of January ahead of their next assignment, which comes in March when Ghana plays in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations doubleheader qualifying games against Angola in March.

This new information was confirmed by Henry Asante Twum who happens to be the Communications Director of the GFA (Ghana Football Association). Asante Twum made this during a recent interview with Accra-based radio station, Asempa FM.

According to him, the GFA is not in a hurry to make the appointment because they are taking their time to make sure they hand over the job to the right person. He also stated that the organization is still reviewing reports intercepted based on the recently ended World Cup games in order to agree on the next step.

“Ghana FA is now focusing on reports of the various committees of the Black Stars at the World Cup. Once that is done, the new technical team will be set up.

“I think it will be this month. From the conversations going on, it is very likely a new head coach of the Black Stars will be appointed this month.

“There will be an EXCO meeting soon and everything will be finalized there,” he told Asempa FM.

Mr. Henry also disclosed that over 60 coaches have already applied for the job, and none of the applicants is from Ghana but coaches rather from Europe and South America.

“I can say over 60 coaches have applied for the Black Stars coaching job and those coaches are European and South American coaches,” he told Asempa FM.

“From what I know, no Ghanaian coach has applied for the job. The Black Stars is very attractive. You cannot have Mohammed Kudus in your team and think the Black Stars is not attractive. It is an attractive brand, no doubt about that.” he said.

The GFA has not yet revealed the names of potential candidates for the position, but there are talks going on that Otto’s replacement could be any of these three; Chris Hughton, George Boateng, and Paulo Bento.
