Ghana FA Sacks Chris Hughton: Ghana’s Football Association has taken swift action, sacking Chris Hughton as the head coach of the national team following their early exit from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
The decision comes after Ghana finished third in Group B, failing to secure a spot in the last 16 as one of the best third-placed finishers.
In an official statement, the Ghana Football Association stated, ‘The Ghana Football Association wishes to announce that Chris Hughton has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the senior national team with immediate effect.

The Executive Council has also taken a decision to dissolve the technical team of the Black Stars.’
The announcement also hinted at future plans, stating, ‘The Ghana Football Association will in the coming days provide a roadmap on the future direction of the Black Stars.’
Hughton, whose father hailed from Ghana, took over as the coach in March, having previously served as a technical advisor during the World Cup in Qatar.
The 65-year-old, former manager of Brighton & Hove Albion and Newcastle United, faced mounting pressure after Ghana’s loss to the Comoros Islands in a World Cup qualifier in November.
The Cup of Nations campaign further intensified the scrutiny, as Ghana lost their opening game to the Cape Verde Islands and managed only draws against Egypt and Mozambique, earning just two points in the group stage.
The Ghanaian Football Association’s decision reflects their commitment to making strategic changes in the aftermath of the disappointing AFCON 2023 campaign.
The football community now awaits the forthcoming roadmap that will outline the future direction of the Black Stars.
