Ghana’s President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo finally puts parts of the country on Lockdown after numerous calls by concerned citizens.

Akufo-Addo on Friday night, March 27, at 11:00PM held his 4th “Address To The Nation” where he spoke more about the current crises, the outbreak of the deadly CoronaVirus (COVID-19) Pandemic and measures he and his government are taking to ensure that the spread of the disease become contained.

The president Agreed to finally put some part of the country on Lockdown, Greater Accra Region and Kumasi. targeted are; Accra, Tema, Kasoa, Kumasi, Obuasi. As these places are the places hit more with the virus.

According to Akufo-Addo, this lockdown protocol was initiated in other to help speed up the process of contact tracing, (people who have come in contact with persons who tested positive fir COVID-19).

This Lockdown is expected to last fir about two (2) weeks subject to review. See Below the full list of areas which will be affected by the lockdown which will be taken effect on Monday, 30th March 2020, at exactly 12:00AM.

  • Tema West
  • Kpone Katamanso
  • Krowor
  • Ledzokuku
  • Adentan
  • Ashiaman
  • La Nkwantanang Madina
  • La Dade Kotopon
  • Okaikwei North
  • Ablekuma North
  • Ablekuma West
  • Ablekuma Central
  • Ayawaso East
  • Ayawaso North
  • Ayawaso West
  • Ayawaso Central
  • Ga North
  • Ga West
  • Ga South
  • Ga Central
  • Ga East
  • Korle-Klottey
  • Weija/Gbawe
  • Awutu Senya East

 

Kumasi Metropolitan Areas:

  • Asokwa
  • Suame
  • Old Tafo
  • Oforikrom
  • Asokore Mampong
  • Kwadaso
  • Atwima Nwabiagya
  • Kwabre East
  • Ejisu
  • Afigya-Kwabre South
  • Bosomtwe
  • Atwima Kwanwoma

The president then adviced each and everyone in the above mentioned areas to stay home for the next two weeks and that you are only entitled to go out when you are to get essential items such as food, water, medicine, undertake banking transactions, or to use public toilet facilities. Anything aside these mentioned is out.

There shal l be, during this period, no inter-city movement of vehicles and aircraft for private or commercial purposes for the areas of the restrictive measures, except for vehicles and aircrafts providing essential services and those carrying cargo.

Riders of motorbikes are not allowed to carry any additional person, and all intra-city passenger vehicles, such as trotros and taxis, must reduce the number of passengers in order to observe appropriate social distancing and hygiene protocols.

All commercial vehicle stations shall observe appropriate hygiene protocols and social distancing.

Individuals and institutions providing the following services shall be exempted from the restrictions:

  1. Members of the Executive, Legislature and the Judiciary
    Production, distribution and marketing of food, beverages, pharmaceuticals, medicine, paper and plastic packages.
  2. Environmental and sanitation activities
  3. VALCO staff
  4. Road and Railway
    construction workers
  5. Mining workers
  6. Fisherfolk
  7. Members of the security agencies assigned lawful duties
  8. The staff of electricity, water, telecommunications, e-commerce and digital service providers
  9. Fuel stations staff.
