Gilgo Beach Murder Suspect Rex Heuermann Charged with Killing Seventh Woman

Rex Heuermann, the primary suspect in the notorious Gilgo Beach serial killings, has been charged with the murder of a seventh woman, Valerie Mack.

The charge, second-degree murder, was filed in an indictment presented in Suffolk County Supreme Court on December 17, 2024.

Mack, 24, who was working as an escort at the time of her death, went missing in 2000. Her skeletal remains were first discovered in Manorville, New York, and additional remains were found in 2011.

Heuermann, who had already been arrested in July 2023 and charged with the deaths of multiple women, including Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, Amber Costello, and Maureen Brainard-Barnes, pleaded not guilty to the murder of Valerie Mack in his court appearance on Tuesday.

Previously, Heuermann was charged with several other murders, including the 1993 killing of Sandra Costilla and the 2003 murder of Jessica Taylor.

He is accused of murdering women who were found in similar conditions near Gilgo Beach, with many of the victims being wrapped in burlap and bound with duct tape or belts.

The ongoing investigation has uncovered at least 11 sets of remains, including those of women, a toddler, and an unidentified Asian man.

Heuermann remains incarcerated without bail, having pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney expressed the significance of the case, emphasizing that the lives of these women matter and that the community is determined to seek justice.
