A quota system for admission into the nation’s numerous public institutes of education is about to be reinstituted by the government.

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) informed principals of colleges of education in a letter that the quota system would begin in the 2022–2023 school year.

The payment of fees and allowances will be based on the number of students the school is required to admit, therefore the GTEC issued a warning that the schools should adhere to the quota they would be allocated.

“We bring for your attention and action permissible admission figures for entry into level 100 at the colleges of education in the 2022/2023 academic year.

“Please be informed that the allocation cannot be varied and must strictly be adhered to. For the avoidance of doubt, payment of Feeding Grants and Trainee Allowances will be guided by these numbers,” parts of the statement iterated.

As a matter of fact, the Presbyterian College of Education, the Akrokerri College of Education, and the Berekum College of Education have the highest admissions quotas, each with 320 students, according to a list of colleges that the GTEC released.

Meanwhile, Mccoy College of Education has the lowest quota, with only 160 students, followed by these three institutions.
