The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) is preparing to announce fare increases across the country.

On Monday, October 24, 2022, the new fares will be released.

This is due to the recent increase in gasoline costs, which has prompted widespread worry among individuals who are concerned about the country’s economic standing as prices for products and services continue to rise.

Fuel costs have always been climbing, and just some fe days ago it went up again. As at the time of this post,  Petrol is already selling for roughly GH13.10, while diesel is retailing for GH15.99 at most fuel stations.

GPRTU’s hands are tied now since they have indicated that, from the looks of things, they will have to increase the fares.

just as mentioned above, the fares will be out on Monday, 24th of October.

While speaking to Citi News, the Industrial Relations Officer for the GPRTU, Abbas Imoro reacting to the situation stated that there will be an increment on Monday but added that passengers will be given a few days to adjust themselves to the new prices.

She said;

“Normally, if we are able to conclude, we will come out on Monday with a percentage of increment. We will give the passengers a few days to adjust themselves to the new prices.”

“We’ve been very considerate. This would have been the third or fourth adjustment from May. We are all in this country and have seen frequent increments in fuel prices. But we have sacrificed to contain it. But we can no longer bear the cost.”

“So we urge passengers to bear with us.”

Mr. Abbas Imoro while speaking on NEAT FM’s morning show, ‘Ghana Montie’ added that the Union had previously targeted a 30 to 40% increase in transportation charges in response to the recent surge in petroleum product prices, but pledged that an acceptable pricing will be issued.
