Gujarat Bridge: Over 190 confirmed dead, many missing, and two arrested over collapse

The world was in a total shock following the sad news coming from India as the 150-year-old in Gujarat’s Morbi collapsed on Sunday, October 30th 2022, leaving many people dead with many left injured.

It has been confirmed from sources over 190 people have lost their lives to the tragic incident, 177 has been rescued and are currently undergoing medical treatment while others too are missing and are yet to be found as of the time of this publication.

The 230m (754ft) colonial-era bridge on the Machchu river was built during British rule in the 19th Century just underwent repair and reopened just a few days ago.

According to officials, the bridge collapsed because there were too many people using it making it (Overloaded) as some witnesses claimed it had over 500 people on it before the unfortunate event happened.

Social media videos displayed distressed individuals hanging to the partially submerged bridge, while another displayed individuals swimming to safety.

Having stated that, it has been confirmed that two Oreva employees who worked on the bridge renovation have been arrested.

According to sources, they are Oreva workers at the mid-level.

Senior firm executives have disappeared ever since one of the worst national tragedies, the bridge accident.

Oreva is held accountable for a number of mistakes, including allegedly failing to get a fitness certificate and reopening the bridge earlier than planned.
