A tragic and senseless act of violence has left a family devastated, as a 36-year-old Elgin man has been charged with the murder of his wife, just a month before their divorce was to be finalized.
Pierre J. French is accused of fatally stabbing his wife, 33-year-old Dreanna Booker, on December 7, 2024. The incident occurred around 1 a.m. at their home in the 700 block of Bluff City Boulevard in Elgin, Illinois.
French was apprehended shortly after the crime and is now facing first-degree murder charges.
Court records indicate that Dreanna had filed an emergency order of protection against French earlier in the year, in July, highlighting a history of tension and concerns for her safety.
Despite their impending divorce, the violence that unfolded on that night ended Dreanna’s life and left their six children—ranging in age from 1 to 14—without both parents.
Dreanna’s family is reeling from the loss, turning to their faith as they mourn the woman they described as an inspiration to all who knew her.
“She meant a lot,” said Zahnae Scott, Dreanna’s niece.
“She was a real inspirational person.” The victim’s brother, Thomas Mitchell, expressed the family’s pain and their desire for justice, saying, “We want justice for my baby. Everything else we’re putting in God’s hands. Lord have mercy.”

The children, who were the light of Dreanna’s life, are now at the center of the family’s focus. “Her kids meant the world to her,” said her nephew, Tayvion.
“Nobody could take her kids away from her, and we’re gonna forever have her kids every day.”
Pierre J. French is scheduled to appear in court on December 18, 2024, as his case moves forward in Kane County.
Meanwhile, the Booker family continues to rally together, remembering Dreanna for the love and strength she gave to everyone around her.
