John Dramani Mahama, the Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has likened himself to a “retired army general” returning to service, as he campaigns for reelection in the upcoming general elections.
During a meeting with district and municipal Imams in the Ashanti Region on Monday, December 2, 2024, Mahama expressed his readiness to lead the country through its current economic and governance challenges. This engagement was part of his six-day campaign tour.
Mahama criticized the current administration for what he called economic mismanagement and governance failures, promising that if given the opportunity, he would implement sound, pragmatic policies to restore stability and improve the living conditions of Ghanaians.

He emphasized his experience and resolve, assuring the religious leaders that under his leadership, the needs of all Ghanaians—especially marginalized communities—would be addressed.
“Just like in times of war, when difficulties arise, we call upon the retired general to return and lead us. I am that retired general.
I may have rested, but now it is time for me to step back in and lead Ghana through these tough times,” Mahama said.
