Just four goals separate Ghanaian attacker Inaki Williams from a century of goals for Athletic Bilbao, putting him on the verge of a historic feat.

After scoring his 96th goal for the team on Monday night, the Spanish-born player is already getting close to reaching an incredible milestone.

The Black Stars forward beat Girona 3-2 thanks to his skill and endurance, outpacing his defenders to score the game-winning goal.

Known for his quickness and clinicality, Inaki Williams has already scored ten goals, demonstrating his reliability and ability to score goals. With this accomplishment, he trails his previous season’s total by just one goal and his personal high of 15 goals from the 2018–19 campaign by five goals.

The 29-year-old has only missed two league games in the previous seven seasons, indicating that his endurance has clearly contributed to his success with the team.

In the Europa League match against Torino in February 2015, Williams scored the team’s opening goal. He became the first black player to score for the team with the strike, and he has since shown impressive growth.

He scored three goals in his final three games of the season, including a header against Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final at Camp Nou. After that, he progressively rose up the club’s all-time top scorers list. He currently shares 16th place with José Iraragorri with 96 goals.

Given the forward’s current performance, the team’s chances of qualifying for the Champions League are projected to be much enhanced. After Atletico Madrid, Valverde’s team is currently two points behind the Champions League spot in fifth place.

Williams’s performance for the national team raises questions even though he is still excelling at the club level.

The striker has only once scored in 17 appearances for the Black Stars since pledging allegiance to Ghana in 2022, sparking debate over the discrepancy between his club and international performances.

Some believe that his difficulties stem from his inability to adjust to Ghana’s playing style, while others wonder what effect the various football surroundings may have had.

Inaki Williams is aiming for a century of goals, therefore the next games seem to be critical for both the player and the team.
