In light of the deteriorating security situation and recent escalation of hostilities, the Indian embassy in Ukraine issued a warning for its citizens on Wednesday against visiting the war-torn nation.

“Indian citizens, including students, in Ukraine advised to leave Ukraine at the earliest,” the embassy further said in its statement.

The warning was issued just hours after Russian President Vladimir Putin imposed martial law in four regions of Ukraine that Moscow had annexed and granted all Russian regional governors emergency powers, which allowed for the introduction of broad new restrictions across the entire nation.

Russian law stipulates that among other restrictions, martial law may call for the prohibition of public gatherings, the imposition of travel restrictions and curfews, and the implementation of censorship.

Putin had ordered the army reserve to mobilize last month, which led to frequent bombings of Ukrainian cities, including the capital Kyiv.

Numerous people have died in Ukraine, including civilians. Volodymyr Zelenskyy, its president, has declared that there is no room for any negotiations with Putin.

Over the past few days, Europe has strengthened its sanctions against Russia even more.

India expressed its grave worry at the crisis in Ukraine escalating, particularly the targeting of civilians and their deaths, earlier this month.

“We reiterate that escalation of hostilities is in no one’s interest. We urge immediate cessation of hostilities and the urgent return to the path of diplomacy and dialogue. India stands ready to support all such efforts aimed at de-escalation,” the ministry of external affairs had said in a statement.
