India’s Daily Covid Cases Cross 5,000, 20% Higher Than Yesterday

In the last 24 hours, India has reported 5,335 new Covid-19 cases, representing a 20% increase from the previous day’s count. This is the first time daily cases have exceeded 5,000 since September 23 of last year.

The country’s active caseload currently stands at 25,587, and the daily positivity rate is at 3.32%, which indicates the extent of the virus’s spread.

Of the total caseload, active cases represent only 0.06%, while the recovery rate stands at 98.75%. In the past 24 hours, 2,826 individuals have recovered from the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries to 4,41,82,538.

The recent surge in daily cases has caused concern among central and state authorities. They have been holding meetings to evaluate the preparedness of healthcare infrastructure to handle the rise in cases.

The Union Health Minister, Mansukh Mandaviya, has assured the public that the government is equipped to manage a surge in infections.

Critical care facilities such as ICU beds and oxygen supply are in place, and there is a weekly assessment of the healthcare system’s readiness.

The national capital, Delhi, has also been witnessing a surge in Covid cases. Yesterday, the city recorded 509 new infections, and the positivity rate reached 26.54%, which is the highest it has been in nearly 15 months.

The Delhi government is closely monitoring the spike in cases and is ready to handle any situation, according to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Speaking to reporters after leading a review meeting on the Covid situation, Kejriwal reassured the public that there is no need to panic at the moment, and the government is taking all necessary measures.
