Tensions in the Middle East have reached a new boiling point, with many fearing the outbreak of World War 3 after a barrage of nearly 200 ballistic missiles were launched from Iran towards Israel.
The missiles targeted densely populated areas in and around Tel Aviv which sparked widespread panic and caused massive explosions.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard confirmed the missile strike, declaring that it had launched “tens of missiles” at Israel, threatening further attacks should Israel retaliate.
Unfortunately enough, despite Israel’s advanced Iron Dome air defense system, video footage suggests that some of the missiles or large fragments breached the defense system, hitting residential areas.
To that effect, this has prompted “World War 3 is on” to trend on social media platform X.
Meanwhile, Israeli officials reported that only two injuries had been confirmed so far, despite the magnitude of the attack.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have urged citizens to “remain in a protected space until further notice,” stating that explosions heard across the country were the result of missile interceptions or fallen projectiles.
Flights in and out of Israel’s Ben Gurion International Airport have been suspended, with neighboring Jordan also closing its airspace temporarily in response to the escalating situation.
The IDF provided instructions for the public to seek shelter, emphasizing the importance of following the Home Front Command’s life-saving guidelines. “Upon hearing a siren, you must enter a protected space and remain there until further notice,” the military stated, adding that all necessary measures would be taken to safeguard Israeli civilians.
The assault marks the most significant military escalation between Israel and Iran in recent years and has raised concerns of a larger regional conflict that could draw in other nations.
As the world watches closely, diplomatic efforts and calls for de-escalation remain crucial in avoiding a full-scale war.
