Reactions from the best man on the pictch and the Manager of Three Lions

“We did it with a great performance, a controlled performance and obviously, it was a magnificent victory and that’s why we had a big celebration in the end.”

“I’m not going to play it down, it means everything to beat them,” Maguire said.

“We know that they’re a good team with excellent players and a good style of play. We put forth a formation to counter theirs and we wanted to be aggressive all over the pitch.”

The win against Germany has opened the door for England to get to the final, facing lower-ranked opponents on the way. If it is able to get past Ukraine in the quarter-final, England would face either the Czech Republic or Denmark in the semifinal.

From there it would be either Italy, Belgium, Spain or Switzerland in the final. European titans, France, Portugal, Germany and the Netherlands have all been eliminated.

“Today has been an immense performance, but it was at a cost, emotionally and physically it was at a cost and we have to make sure that we recover well and that mentally we’re in the right space,” Southgate said. “It’s a dangerous moment for us.

We’ll have that warmth of success and the feeling around the country that we only have to turn up to win the thing and we know it’s going to be an immense challenge from here on. I think the players know that, they’ve been in the later stages before.

Their feet are on the ground and they feel confident from the way they’ve played and the manner of the performance. But came here with an intention and we have not achieved that yet.”
