In a strange and unconventional story from a Miami jail, Daisy Link, a woman facing murder charges, became pregnant by a fellow inmate, Joan Depaz, who is also charged with murder.
Despite never having physical contact, the two formed a romantic relationship through communication via a vent in their cells.
The unlikely couple managed to conceive a child while incarcerated at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
The pair exchanged notes and pictures, with Depaz eventually expressing his desire to have a child.
Link agreed, and the two used a system involving bedding and a line through the vent to pass semen wrapped in plastic.

Link then used a yeast infection applicator to inseminate herself. After several attempts, Link became pregnant, and in June 2024, she gave birth to a daughter.
Link referred to the baby as a “miracle” and a “blessing.” Both inmates remain in different facilities now but still maintain communication through phone calls and video visits.
Depaz’s murder trial is set for May 2025, while Link’s trial date is still pending.
