This paperwork comes two years after their highly anticipated wedding in July 2022. Lopez has set April 26, 2024 as their separation date, signifying the end of the power couple.
Lopez decided to handle the divorce on her own, without the assistance of a lawyer, and represented herself in the court processes. This decision emphasizes Lopez’s unwavering independence, even in the most personal circumstances.
Hours after the singer filed for divorce from Ben Affleck, a source close to the couple told PEOPLE that Lopez “was done waiting.”
Speculation regarding the couple’s relationship status began earlier this summer, when rumors emerged that they were living on opposite coasts.
On July 4, Lopez was seen in the Hamptons, New York, celebrating her 55th birthday and the couple’s second wedding anniversary. Affleck remained in Los Angeles. This geographical barrier appeared to reflect the emotional gap that had arisen between them.
Adding to the rumors, Lopez abruptly canceled her summer tour, citing the need to prioritize her family. Shortly later, the couple sold their Beverly Hills home, indicating that things were no longer as peaceful as they appeared.
