Manchester City have reached an agreement to sell Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid in a record-breaking deal that could be worth up to £81 million. City are willing to let Alvarez go if their asking price of around £70 million is met.
According to earlier rumors, Arsenal was also considering signing the Argentine forward and was willing to pay £70 million to resolve their long-standing problems with the number nine position. It did not appear plausible, though, that City would sell to their title rivals.

This week, the Premier League champions and Atletico have been in talks, and during the last day, those talks have advanced considerably.

Personal terms are still being finalized, but it’s expected to be a formality, as Alvarez has expressed his desire to leave the Etihad Stadium this summer.

He returned to River Plate on loan at first, but later that summer, he joined City and made an immediate impression.
The Argentine international was a member of City’s historic 2022–23 treble-winning team, scoring 36 goals in 103 games. With his relocation to Spain, Alvarez is now poised to make history for a different cause.
This news comes just days after Pep Guardiola suggested that Alvarez would remain at City this summer. Following a 4-2 win over Chelsea in pre-season, Guardiola said, “He will come back. I count on him, but he said in the news that decisions will be made all together.”
