Manchester City have reached an agreement to sell Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid in a record-breaking deal that could be worth up to £81 million. City are willing to let Alvarez go if their asking price of around £70 million is met.

According to earlier rumors, Arsenal was also considering signing the Argentine forward and was willing to pay £70 million to resolve their long-standing problems with the number nine position. It did not appear plausible, though, that City would sell to their title rivals.

Townflex Sports understands Alvarez is reportedly close to signing a contract to join Atletico Madrid, with large salary on the table.

This week, the Premier League champions and Atletico have been in talks, and during the last day, those talks have advanced considerably.

Atletico will pay £64 million (€75 million) upfront, with an additional £17 million (€20 million) in potential add-ons, making this City’s record sale.

Personal terms are still being finalized, but it’s expected to be a formality, as Alvarez has expressed his desire to leave the Etihad Stadium this summer.
