The Jung Career Advancement Award grants a €210,000 award to finance a medical research project over three years.
The funds are intended to help scholars progress their careers and make major contributions to their professions. The award is split into two equal installments, with the second reliant on a positive interim report approved by the Scientific Advisory Board.
Application Requirements
This award is primarily intended for medical practitioners who have:
- Finished at least two years of scientific research, preferably overseas.
- A documented record of scientific achievements.
- Plans to return to Germany to finish their residency training.
The research must be done at a German academic hospital. Recipients of the prize are required to be relieved of clinical duties for at least a year to concentrate on their research before returning to clinical training. The remaining two years include intermittent protected research time.

Applicants are not required to indicate a host institution at the time of submission. Instead, after receiving the award, they will speak with the Foundation to determine which one to accept.
Selection Procedure
The selection procedure is rigorous, and it includes the following steps:
Initial Review: The Jung Foundation for Science and Research’s Scientific Advisory Board conducts an initial examination of all submissions.
Final Selection Round: Final Selection phase: A maximum of three candidates advance to the final phase, which includes an in-person interview in Hamburg.
