“Kalvin Phillips Draws Inspiration from Jack Grealish as He Looks to Shine in Second Season at Manchester City

After a challenging debut season with Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, Kalvin Phillips finds inspiration in Jack Grealish as he sets his sights on progressing in his second year at the club.

Phillips, who made the move from Leeds United last summer, looks to Grealish as a source of motivation to overcome the obstacles and thrive in his upcoming season at Manchester City.

Despite contributing to Manchester City’s remarkable treble triumph, Kalvin Phillips was limited to merely four starts in all competitions. An early-season shoulder injury hampered his initial progress at the club, impeding his chances of establishing himself within the team.

Approaching his second season, the 27-year-old midfielder is eager to secure a more significant role within the side. While midfield competition remains fierce, Phillips draws inspiration from both his City and England teammate, Jack Grealish.

Speaking exclusively to talkSPORT, Philip said: “I’ve known Jack for years, I’ve played against him for years and he’s very much a family man as well.”

“Loves his family, keeps them very close and he’s obviously had his tough times when he was younger as well.”

“Our career paths have basically taken the same step but just a year apart, and I kind of look at Jack and just think he’s my inspiration in this part.”

“He had a tough first year and so did I, second year he came out firing so I’m looking forward to getting pre-season started and hopefully I can turn things around.”

Arriving at Manchester City as the most expensive British player at that time, Jack Grealish initially recorded a modest tally of six goals and four assists in his debut season.

However, the following campaign witnessed a remarkable transformation in his performance, as he elevated his game to new heights by scoring five goals and contributing 11 assists.
