Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign reached a significant financial milestone, garnering $47 million in only 24 hours after her debate with former President Donald Trump.
This record-breaking number, reported by a campaign official on Thursday, was driven primarily by grassroots supporters.
Almost 600,000 people donated to Harris’ campaign during this 24-hour period, making it her highest single-day fundraising effort since she began her presidential campaign. This rise in donations happened after President Biden dropped out of the race and backed Harris to continue the Democratic campaign for president.
During the debate’s first hour, a campaign official told The Hill that 71% of grassroots donations were made by women, demonstrating strong female support for Harris’ candidacy.

While reporting the high funding total, the Harris team cautioned against declaring an early triumph. “We’re not just running against Donald Trump and his campaign. We’re running against an entire army of MAGA-aligned super PACs and outside groups,” said Jen O’Malley Dillon, campaign chair.
Despite the campaign’s outstanding financial achievements, it emphasized the continued challenges, as funds continue to come to Trump via multiple political action committees (PACs) and other organizations.
Democrats and political analysts hailed Harris’ debate performance, with several pointing to her ability to provoke Trump from his prepared remarks. A CNN flash poll showed that 63 percent of viewers believed Harris outscored Trump during the debate. This positive response appears to have significantly boosted fundraising efforts.

In August, the Harris campaign raised an additional $361 million, bringing its financial reserve to $404 million at the end of the month. This amount greatly exceeds the $130 million raised by the Trump campaign within the same period of time.
The Harris campaign attributed the August total to what they termed the best grassroots fundraising month in presidential history. Nearly 3 million donors contributed, with 1.3 million individuals making their first donation of the election cycle.
