Kanye West, Donda Academy Sued for Sushi-Only Diet

American renowned rapper, Kanye West now known by his legal name Ye, and his Donda Academy is currently facing a lawsuit filed by two Black women who were previously employed as teachers at the institution.

What You Should Know About Donda Academy

Donda Academy, a Christian private school catering to pre-kindergarten through twelfth-grade students, is situated in Simi Valley, California, USA. The school, established in 2022, is not accredited and was founded by the renowned American rapper, Kanye West. The location of the institution was kept under wraps, and parents had to agree to a non-disclosure agreement. Each student is charged $15,000 to attend the school, and they wear blackshirt Balenciaga uniforms designed by West himself.

According to reports on October 27, 2022, the school was shut down abruptly after West made antisemitic comments on various platforms, including social media and interviews. However, the school was reopened within hours.

The women claim that they were wrongfully terminated for two reasons: retaliation for raising concerns about education, health, and safety code violations, and because of their race.

According to the lawsuit, which was obtained by TMZ, the women allege that they were the only Black teachers employed by Donda Academy when they were hired earlier this year. Shortly after, they became aware of numerous health and safety violations, unlawful educational practices, and bizarre rules at Kanye’s school.

Among the many alleged issues, the women claim that students are only given sushi as a lunch option every day and are not allowed to bring any outside food or drink, except water. The lawsuit further alleges that Kanye spends a whopping $10,000 every week on sushi.

In addition, the teachers state that Kanye imposed strange restrictions on the school, such as banning crossword puzzles and coloring sheets, prohibiting classes from being held on the second floor because of his fear of stairs, and forbidding the use of utensils.

It remains to be seen how this lawsuit will play out, but it is clear that the Donda Academy is no stranger to controversy. With these allegations of mistreatment and discrimination, Ye may have to answer some tough questions about the culture he has created at his institution.

The lawsuit accuses him of a string of unacceptable behaviors, including refusing to allow artwork to be displayed on walls, prohibiting jewelry, and even denying the use of chairs to students and teachers at the Donda Academy. The suit also alleges that the dress code required everyone to wear all black, but the use of Nike and Adidas brands was prohibited.

According to the lawsuit, the school doors were locked from the outside during school hours, and students were not allowed to go outside until they went home. All students from pre-kindergarten to 12th grade had to take lunch and recess indoors at the same time.

Shockingly, the school allegedly lacked basic amenities such as a janitor, a school nurse, or trash cans outside classrooms or in the kitchen. Furthermore, the lawsuit states that student medications were stored in a closet with other expired medications scattered around unsecured.

To make matters worse, the teachers claim that Donda Academy lacks proper disciplinary procedures, resulting in students going undisciplined for multiple instances of bullying and physical assaults against peers and teachers. When the teachers tried to raise these concerns, they were allegedly threatened not to contact Kanye.

As if all of this wasn’t enough, the teachers say they were ultimately fired in retaliation and on grounds of racial discrimination. They also claim their paychecks were consistently short up to $2,700 per pay period. With such egregious accusations, it is no surprise that Kanye and Donda Academy are being sued for monetary compensation.
