Kanye West Slams Kendrick Lamar’s Verse on Playboi Carti’s New Album

Kanye West has made it clear that he’s not a fan of Kendrick Lamar’s contributions to Playboi Carti’s highly anticipated album Music, which dropped on March 14.

Despite Kendrick’s notable guest appearances on tracks likeGood Credit,” “Mojo Jojo,” and “Backd00r,” Kanye didn’t hold back in his criticism.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Kanye shared his honest opinion, writing, “I DONT LIKE KENDRICK LAMAR’S MUSIC. HE RAPS VERY GOOD BUT I DIDNT NEED TO HEAR HIM ON CARTI ALBUM.”

This surprising remark comes despite the two having worked together in the past, with Kanye even co-producing “Backd00r.”

However, Kanye did express his enjoyment of Carti’s songs “Crank” and “I Seeeeee You Baby Boi,” sharing screenshots of the tracks along with compliments.

This is not the first time Kanye has voiced his dissatisfaction with Kendrick Lamar. Back in February, leading up to the Super Bowl, Kanye made waves by suggesting that Kendrick’s success was due to selective industry support.

In a lengthy Twitter rant, Kanye said, “THEY PICK WHICH N-GGAS THEY WANT TO PROP UP AND WHO THEY WANT TO PUT DOWN,” pointing to Kendrick’s Super Bowl appearance in contrast with Diddy’s legal troubles.

Despite his criticisms, Kanye has praised Kendrick in other contexts. He called Kendrick’s Super Bowl halftime show his favorite since Michael Jackson’s iconic 1993 performance.

Kanye also acknowledged Kendrick’s prowess in rap battles, calling him an undefeatable opponent—though he hinted that only he could take Kendrick down in a battle, calling himself a “psycho genius.”
