Kendrick Lamar will headline the 2025 Super Bowl LIX halftime show, following the controversy over Usher’s unpaid appearance at the 2023 NFL event.
Lamar, who has been tied in a viral rap battle, including a diss from Big Sean earlier this year, expressed his enthusiasm for the impending concert.
In a statement, he said, “Rap music is still the most impactful genre to date. And I’ll be there to remind the world why. They got the right one.”
Lamar didn’t stop there. He also seemed to take a swipe at his rival Drake in a promotional video, stating, “You know there’s only one opportunity to win a championship, no round 2s.” This remark has fueled further speculation about ongoing tensions between the two rap giants.
The creative direction for Lamar’s performance will be overseen by pgLang, the media business he co-founded with buddy and collaborator Dave Free. This collaboration suggests a performance that may break new ground in terms of artistic vision and cultural significance.

The much anticipated performance will take place on February 9, 2025, at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans and will be aired by Fox.
Jay-Z, whose firm Roc Nation is producing the halftime concert for the sixth year running, had high praise for Lamar. “Kendrick Lamar is truly a once-in-a-generation artist and performer. His deep love for hip-hop and culture informs his artistic vision. He has an unparalleled ability to define and influence culture globally,” Jay-Z said.
Seth Dudowsky, the NFL’s head of music, also expressed his admiration for Lamar. “Few artists have impacted music and culture as profoundly as Kendrick Lamar,” Dudowsky noted. “Time and time again, Kendrick has proven his unique ability to craft moments that resonate, redefine, and ultimately shake the very foundation of hip-hop.”

Oliver Schusser, Apple’s vice president of Apple Music and Apple TV, added, “The Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime Show is a celebration of the music we love and the incredible artists who make it, all on the world’s biggest stage.”
Lamar, a 17-time Grammy Award winner, recently topped the Billboard charts with his singles “Not Like Us” and “Like That,” which featured fellow rapper, Future and Metro Boomin. His consistent success in the music industry makes him an obvious choice for this major event, which is expected to draw millions of viewers worldwide.
The halftime show will be produced by DPS, with Roc Nation and Jesse Collins as executive producers and Hamish Hamilton directing. Fans and pundits alike are excited for what promises to be one of the most talked-about performances in 2025.
With all eyes on Kendrick Lamar, the 2025 Super Bowl LIX halftime show is shaping up to be an unforgettable experience with a lasting impact on music history.
