Kendrick Lamar has surprised fans with the unexpected release of his sixth studio album, GNX.
The Pulitzer Prize-winning rapper teased the project with a one-minute video before the album dropped, sending shockwaves through the music world.
The 12-track album features collaborations with SZA and Kamasi Washington, with producer Jack Antonoff credited on all but one track.

This surprise release marks the end of an extraordinary year for Lamar, who also garnered seven Grammy nominations earlier in 2024, thanks to hit singles like Not Like Us and Like That.
The album does not include any of the tracks from earlier in the year, but it does feature Heart Pt. 6, a direct response to Drake’s diss track The Heart Part 6, released in May.
Lamar, known for his introspective and thoughtful approach to his music, addressed the nature of his music in an interview earlier this year.
“I don’t believe I’m an angry person,” he said, adding that his awareness of “love and war” helps him express his emotions without letting them define him.
GNX also features a track called Wacced Out Murals, in which Lamar reflects on his rise and struggles in the music industry.
He references his upcoming performance at the Super Bowl halftime show, which has become a highly anticipated moment.
Lamar also touches on the support he’s received from industry legends like Nas and his feelings of having “let Lil’ Wayne down.”

With GNX, Lamar proves once again that he’s a force in both music and culture, continuing to reshape the boundaries of hip-hop.
