South Korean actress Kim Sae-ron, renowned for her roles in films such as “A Brand New Life” and “The Man from Nowhere,” was discovered dead in her Seongsu-dong, Seoul residence on February 16, 2025.
The 24 years old actress was reported dead after a close friend who was concerned about failing to reach the actress decided to visit her home only to find her unresponsive.
Authorities were alerted promptly, and according to a police official, there were no immediate signs of foul play, but investigations into the cause of her death are ongoing.
Kim embarked on her acting journey at the tender age of nine, making a remarkable debut in the 2009 film “A Brand New Life.” Her portrayal of a young girl abandoned in an orphanage garnered critical acclaim and led to an invitation to the Cannes Film Festival, making her one of the youngest attendees in the festival’s history.
In 2010, she starred alongside actor Won Bin in “The Man from Nowhere,” a film that dominated the South Korean box office that year. Kim’s compelling performance as a kidnapped child solidified her status as a rising star in the industry.

Despite her early success, Kim’s career faced significant challenges, in May 2022, she was involved in a drunk driving incident in Seoul’s Gangnam District. Driving under the influence, she collided with multiple structures, including a transformer, leading to a power outage affecting numerous businesses.

Her blood alcohol level was reported to be over 0.2%, well above the legal limit, following the incident, Kim issued a public apology and faced legal repercussions, including a fine of 20 million won.
“I have no excuses for this unfortunate incident and I feel so ashamed and disappointed in myself for the mistake I made,” she said. “I will deeply reflect and reflect again to ensure that something like this never happens again. I’m sorry.”
The aftermath of the incident led to a hiatus from her acting career. She withdrew from several projects, including the SBS drama “Trolley,” and her scenes in the Netflix series “Bloodhounds” were significantly reduced.
In early 2024, Kim sought to make a comeback through the stage play “Dongchimi.” However, facing public backlash and citing health concerns, she ultimately withdrew from the production, however, eports from that period indicated that she was exploring other avenues, including working as a florist, as she distanced herself from the entertainment spotlight.
