King Charles III proclaimed as Britain’s king: Just as we published a few hours ago, the coronation took place on Saturday morning, September 10, 2022,, two days after his mother’s death raised him to the throne.

The ceremony, which was for the first time, broadcast live online and on air was pomp-filled and rich in old customs and political symbolism.

Charles, 73, who had been the heir apparent to the throne for seven decades, was automatically proclaimed king following the untimely death of his mother, Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, on Thursday, September 8, 2022.

This is the first accession ceremony since Queen Elizabeth II assumed the throne in 1952.

His Majesty’s two-part accession council began at 10 a.m. local time at the State Apartments of St. James’ Palace in London.

At the event, Charles was accompanied by his wife Camilla, the Queen Consort, and his eldest son Prince William. William is now the successor to the throne and has the title Prince of Wales, which Charles formerly held.

King Charles III proclaimed monarch: Hundreds of prominent British politicians, including new Prime Minister Liz Truss and five of her predecessors, gathered in the sumptuous state rooms of St. James’s Palace for the Accession Council meeting.

They gathered without Charles, affirming his throne as King Charles III. The king then joined them, promising to follow in his mother’s “inspiring example” as he assumed the responsibilities of monarch.

“I am deeply aware of this great inheritance and of the duties and heavy responsibilities of sovereignty which have now passed to me,” he said.

Speaking of his personal grief, he said: “I know how deeply you and the entire nation and I think I may say the whole world sympathizes with me in the irreparable loss we have all suffered,” King Charles III said.

“It is the greatest consolation to me to know of the sympathy expressed by so many to my sister and my brothers and as such overwhelming affection and support should be extended to our whole family in our loss. To all of us as a family.”

“My mother’s reign was unequaled in its duration, its dedication and its devotion. Even as we grieve we give thanks for this most faithful life. I am deeply aware of this great inheritance and of the duties and heavy responsibilities of sovereignty which have now passed to me.”

In his address, the 73-year-old king also honored his wife Camilla, Queen Consort of the United Kingdom, as he assumed the throne.

“In taking up these responsibilities I shall strive to follow the inspiring example I have been set in upholding constitutional government and to seek the peace, harmony and prosperity of the peoples of these islands, and of the commonwealth realms and territories across the world. In this purpose, I know that I shall be upheld by the affection and loyalty of the peoples whose sovereign I have been called upon to be, and in the discharge of these duties, I will be guided by the council of their elected parliaments.”
