Kwesi Amoako-Atta, the Minister of Roads and Highways, has urged road contractors across the country to support the government’s efforts to pass the electronic levy.

According to the Minister, if the e-levy is approved, the government will be able to pay off its debt commitments to them.

Moreover, the Minister stated at a meeting with the leadership of the Road Contactors Association that when the E-Levy is implemented, a lot of poor roads will be fixed.

“When the E-levy is implemented, the road sector will get its fair share. All contractors owed by the government will be paid,” he said.

Moreover, he added “A number of deplorable roads will be fixed when the E-Levy is introduced. This is because all contractors we owe will be paid. You are going to benefit directly from its implementation.”

“No serious government will joke with its contractors,” the minister emphasized.

Mr. Amoako-Atta also mentioned that there are plans in the works to convert the different toll booths into good washrooms.

The minister stated that “We even want to refurbish all those toll booth structures to provide proper and decent washrooms for use by motorists. This is to avoid situations where motorists stop to ease themselves indiscriminately.”

The Minister’s remarks follow a series of pleas from Akufo-Addo’s government officials to Ghanaians on the necessity for the e-levy.

They have maintained that if the levy is implemented, Ghana will benefit greatly.

This is because, consequently, numerous jobs and infrastructure will be constructed.
