Kwesi Appiah has officially stepped down from his role on the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) following an order from the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
Currently serving as the coach of the Sudanese national team, Appiah faced a potential conflict of interest with Ghana and Sudan set to meet in Group F of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
In a statement from his spokesperson, Asante Forkuo, Appiah confirmed his temporary resignation from the GFA position until the end of November 2024 to adhere to CAF’s request and avoid any conflict.
“Coach Kwasi Appiah has temporarily stepped aside as an Executive Council member of the GFA,” Forkuo announced on social media.
With the crucial match against Ghana approaching on October 10, Appiah aims to lead Sudan to victory.

The Sudanese team currently holds one win and one loss in their qualifiers, while Ghana seeks its first victory in the tournament, adding pressure on the four-time African champions.
Previously, Appiah’s dual roles had raised concerns, prompting CAF to send a legal directive to the GFA. Appiah’s decision to step down reflects a commitment to integrity in the face of competitive challenges.
As he focuses on Sudan’s upcoming match, Appiah will be looking to upset his home nation while navigating his coaching career amidst administrative changes.
