Late goals from Gabriel and Mohamed Elneny spared Arsenal’s blushes from an earlier defensive howler as the Gunners rallied to a 3-1 first-leg lead over Olympiakos in their Europa League last-16 tie.

Arsenal dominated most part in Athens and held a deserved half-time lead through Martin Odegaard’s long-range first goal for the club – although Olympiakos missed a gilt-edged chance to level from a David Luiz error.

They had less mercy on the visitors following another defensive mix-up after half-time when Dani Ceballos was robbed by Youssef El-Arabi when miss-controlling an ill-conceived pass from Bernd Leno before the Olympiakos top scorer leveled from distance.

GOAL in the 58th Minutes as OLYMPIACOS Equalise!! It’s another mistake at the back from Arsenal! Leno plays the ball into Ceballos, who has his back to goal and two for company. The midfielder is robbed and El-Arabi curls into the bottom-right corner with Leno out of position!

Arsenal then scored the 2nd goal to be in front again!! A short corner was taken to Willian, who floats the ball to the back post where Gabriel charges in to glance a terrific header across goal and into the far corner beyond the reach of Sa! It’s 2-1 to the Gunners.

GOAL in the 85th minutes!! WHAT A STRIKE FROM ELNENY!!!! Gabriel plays it short to the Egyptian on halfway and he runs, unopposed, towards the edge of the box before unleashing a swerving strike of such ferocity that Sa can’t keep it out, despite getting a hand to it, palming it onto the post and in! Of the three Arsenal substitutes to have just entered the fray, Elneny seemed the most unlikely to get on the scoresheet, but he’s made it 3-1 to Arsenal!

Olympiacos face Larissa in their last league game of the season next, while Arsenal host Tottenham in the north London derby as they return to Premier League action.

Arsenal take a two-goal lead and three away goals into the second leg at home despite Leno’s poor pass into Ceballos allowing El-Arabi to cancel out Odegaard’s long-range opener. It finishes 3-1 to Arsenal in Greece
