Inter Milan tightened their control of the Serie A title race on Saturday with a composed 2-0 away victory over Lecce, striking twice late to turn pressure into points.
After a cagey first hour, patience proved decisive for the league leaders. Inter finally broke through in the 75th minute when Henrikh Mkhitaryan found space inside the penalty area and calmly guided a half-volley into the net after a corner was only partially cleared.
The result was sealed seven minutes later as Manuel Akanji rose highest to power a header into the top corner, extinguishing any hopes of a late Lecce comeback.
Inter had thought they were ahead shortly after the break when a low strike from Federico Dimarco found the corner, but the goal was ruled out following an offside decision against Marcus Thuram in the buildup.
The win keeps Inter top of the table on 64 points, opening up a commanding 10-point advantage over city rivals AC Milan, while champions Napoli trail by 14 points in third. With the business end of the season approaching, Inter’s ability to grind out results continues to underline their status as clear favorites for the Scudetto.
